Baycol
Manufactured by Bayer A.G.
Pharmaceuticals, Baycol is a prescription
statin class of drugs, which
lower
cholesterol and reduce heart attacks. Bayer
voluntarily recalled Baycol on August 8, 2001
as a result of 31 deaths linked to the drug.
Statin drugs have been known to cause muscle
cell damage and, in some cases, a condition called
rhabdomyolysis which occured ten times more often
with Baycol than other statin drugs.
Bayer adjusted its recommended
dosage after reports of problems and reaffirmed
that the proper use
of Baycol was safe from serious side effects.
They were wrong.
Bayer had knowledge of rhabdomyolysis causing
death and kidney failure in Baycol users as
early as January 2000. Bayer continued to seek
higher dosages despite repeated reports of
rhabdomyolysis deaths from
their product.
Lawsuits
If you or a member of your family has been injured by
the use of Baycol, you may have grounds to file a lawsuit against Bayer.
Injuries from Baycol include, but are not limited to, intense muscle pain, weakness,
malaise, fever, dark urine, nausea and vomiting, and kidney failure as outlined
above.
