Vioxx

A product of Merck & Co. for the treatment of arthritis has been voluntarily withdrawn from worldwide distribution after a three-year colon cancer clinical trial revealed that 18 months after patients started taking Vioxx, results showed an increased risk of heart attacks and other cardiovascular complications

Vioxx, which comes in liquid or pill form is a non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drug and is in a class of drugs commonly referred to as a "Cox-2". Vioxx is prescribed to relieve the symptoms of osteoarthritis. It can also be used to treat acute pain in adults such as those patients who experience severe pain associated with menstruation.

In addition to heart attacks and strokes, Vioxx has also been associated with side effects, including blood clots, angina and nonbacterial meningitis, severe intestinal damage, ulcerations and bleeding, and kidney damage.

The question raised in recent law suits was "when was Merck first aware of the potentially fatal side effects of the drug and did they make an effort to inform the proper authorities".

Lawsuits
If you or a member of your family has been injured by the use of Vioxx, you may have grounds to file a lawsuit against Merck & Co.. Injuries from Vioxx include, but are not limited, stroke or heartattack, blood clots, gastrointestinal problems, and kidney toxicity as outlined above.
